Foreign Media: Stuttgart Deploys Over 2,500 Police to Prevent Hungarian Fans From Causing Trouble

Foreign Media: Stuttgart Deploys Over 2,500 Police to Prevent Hungarian Fans From Causing TroubleAccording to Hungarian media outlet nemzetisport, Stuttgart will deploy over 2,500 police officers to maintain order at the Euro 2024 Group A second round match, in order to prevent trouble caused by Hungarian fans.

Based on information provided by the Stuttgart city government on Tuesday, Stuttgart police and UEFA have classified the match, which will decide Hungary’s fate, as a high-risk event due to the “violent” nature of some Hungarian fans.

Thomas Strobl, Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, said: “This requires special preparations.” He expects Stuttgart to welcome 15,000 to 20,000 fans from Hungary.

Authorities will escort each group of fans to the stadium separately, starting in stages from the city center. Hungarian fans will gather in the Central Castle Garden, while German fans will gather two kilometers away in the City Park. According to law enforcement announcements, if there are indeed riots and conflicts, the police will “intervene with forceful action, swiftly and purposefully, to calm the situation.”

Due to their 1-3 loss to Switzerland in the first round, Hungary’s chances of advancing have become extremely bleak. If they lose to host Germany in this match, they will likely become the first nation to be eliminated from the tournament.
