Neville: England’s midfield is currently flawed, Manu should replace Arnold as starter

England legend Gary Neville today spoke about the current England squad in an interview, and believes that Manu will replace Arnold as a starter in the upcoming match against Denmark.

Speaking to The Overlap, Neville said: “As the game goes on, I think Arnold could be dropped, and the person who replaces him would be Manu. Every good team has someone in midfield who can receive the ball, control the tempo and drive the team forward, I like Bellingham, Rice and Arnold, they are all very good players, but currently the three of them don’t have the ability to receive the ball while turning half-way through midfield.”

“If Manu is the engine, the team’s attacking vitality will be greatly improved, which could help the team. If Manu plays in midfield, Rice will have the chance to get forward, which will be a great help to England’s attack.”

In the opening match against Serbia, Manu came on as a substitute for Bellingham in the 73rd minute, marking his debut in a major international tournament.
