June 28 – With the European Championship and Copa América in full swing, former Colombian legend Carlos Valderrama has responded to French striker Kylian Mbappé’s controversial comments about the difficulty of the World Cup compared to the European Championship.
The South American legend, nicknamed “El Pibe” (The Kid), who was twice named South American Footballer of the Year, openly refuted the statement that “the European Championship is harder than the World Cup” in a recent interview.
“Look at the nonsense he’s saying, that the European Championship is better than the World Cup… No brother, who says that nonsense… Mbappé has never played in South America, so he should shut up,” Valderrama retorted. “I can talk about Europe and South America, because I’ve played in both places.”
“Mbappé talks too much. Another time he said the same thing about South America. Who won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar? How many champions came from South America? Oh well, don’t bring Mbappé into this, he talks too much… Let him come (to South America) and then we’ll talk,” Valderrama concluded.
