France will face Belgium in the round of 16 of the European Championship, and French legend Dugarry believes that the current Belgium team is “not scary at all” and France will easily defeat their opponents to reach the quarter-finals.
Although France has not been convincing in this European Championship, even their star player and captain Mbappe has been hampered by a nose injury, former French national team forward Dugarry, who won the 1998 World Cup with the team, believes that the current Belgium team is no longer the “golden generation” it once was.
During a visit to his former national team teammate Rothen’s show “Rothen s’enflamme,” Dugarry boldly put forward his own views, believing that France can win easily. Dugarry said: “Look at these poor Belgians, I think they’re pathetic because they’re totally out of shape. Of course, some of them still have some individual ability, but I really don’t see anything scary about them. If we can’t even beat this Belgium team, what’s the point of us playing in the European Championship?”
Dugarry pointed out that Belgium’s defence is a major problem, lacking even a defensive system. He also believes that the time when Belgium was feared is over. Dugarry said: “I understand the disappointed Belgian fans, people have been talking about their golden generation for years, but now the golden generation is no longer golden. There are simply no advantages to this current Belgium team. I think they are too soft, lack power, and lack aggression…”
When Rothen suggested that France’s performance in this European Championship has not been outstanding, Dugarry replied: “France is more capable of regaining form in an important knockout match, and these Belgians just can’t do that. France has been tormented by fast-paced, high-pressure teams in recent months, but as for the current Belgium team, even if they are pushed to the brink, they will never be able to raise their game intensity.”
