Following Belgium’s narrow qualification for the round of 16, former Belgian international Albert has stated that the national team is experiencing a decline in overall strength. What is more worrying, he claims, is that many players seem indifferent to this.
Speaking to the camera, Albert first analyzed Belgium’s performance thus far. He said: “Since the beginning of the competition, Belgium have missed a lot. In the easiest group, they got 4 points, only won once, scored two goals. We didn’t get many positives from this European Championship opening.”
To make matters worse, the Belgian national team have even been at odds with their own supporters. He said: “The anger of the fans is justified. Perhaps they should remind the players of this national team. We have a golden generation, now we have talented players. Perhaps they should realize that what they have provided in recent weeks or months is not enough. Some players are not aware of this yet.”
Regarding whether Belgium will be able to bounce back, he said: “Hopefully, otherwise it will be very difficult. We will find it hard against France. But anything can happen. The Danish fairytale in ’92, the Greek myth in ’04. These are extraordinary examples. Tedesco has a few days to prepare for this game, and I hope he will give it his all. I still believe that Belgium has the ability to hurt this French team, but it all depends on this French team.”
