Belgian media outlet RTBF reported that Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco was furious after the 0-0 draw against Ukraine. The reason? He believes the team’s arrival at the stadium was too late.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It took us over an hour to get from our hotel to the stadium. We had police escort, but they stopped at every red light, driving at 25 kilometers per hour. The game couldn’t be postponed, so I only had two minutes for my pre-game speech. The team’s warm-up was also shortened, and the preparation was terrible,” Tedesco angrily accused.
German police later responded, stating that they had informed the Belgian team in advance that the estimated travel time was 60 minutes. The bus left the hotel only 3 minutes behind schedule. The Belgian team estimated the journey to be 40 minutes, which resulted in the delay. They said the team should be responsible for this, and the police followed all regulations during the journey.
