Germany star Jamal Musiala has said that his team is not afraid of a potential quarterfinal clash with Spain, expressing confidence that Germany can win the tournament and hopes to meet England in the final.
Germany topped Group A and will face Denmark in the first knockout round. If they progress to the last eight, they will face the winner of the match between Spain and Georgia. Musiala said: “It won’t be an easy path but if you want to win the tournament you have to beat the best teams. We embrace the challenge, we are confident enough to win the Euros. Spain potentially? If we stay focused in every game then anything is possible.”
Musiala is of mixed heritage, his father is Nigerian & British, his mother is German & Polish. The 21-year-old Bayern star grew up in England, representing England at U16, U17, and U21 level, but eventually opted to play for Germany.
Musiala said he would love to meet England in the final: “I’m dreaming of playing England in the final, that would be really cool, would be quite exciting and be a special moment in my career, but that’s in the future. I’ve never doubted my decision to play for Germany, even in recent games – some of them haven’t gone so well for me.”
The 21-year-old has made 35 appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 8 assists. He has featured in 3 games of the Euros, totaling 222 minutes, and scored against Scotland and Hungary.
