England’s goalscoring hero Jude Bellingham spoke to the media after his equaliser in stoppage time and Harry Kane’s winner in extra time saw England come back to beat Slovakia 2-1 in the Round of 16 of the European Championships.
Bellingham told ITV: “I know what I can do in those moments, no matter what anyone says. I did it for Real Madrid this year, I’ve done it for England before, and I’m delighted I could help the team today.”
“How would I rate the goal? It depends on what happens in two weeks’ time. If this goal helps us win the trophy, it will be incredibly important.”
“A good win, moving onto the next round, we’re all very happy. The last week or so, we’ve been trying to shake off the negativity of the group stages. I think they were ready for us today, and we showed the kind of character that England has been missing. Ultimately, though, it’s about getting through.”
“I think we’ve been performing very well, we’ve been controlling the games, getting into the final third all the time, maybe just missing that last bit of quality in terms of creating big chances, and that’s something that will be vital for the games going forward.”
“It’s not me, it’s not Kane, it’s not individual moments, we won this game as a team. It’s people like Ivan Toney, Eze, Palmer, Saka going to left-back, the sacrifices everyone is making for the team, the energy we need to keep, whatever happens.”
