England winger Saka, who is preparing for the European Championship Round of 16, recently gave an interview to talksport. Saka was relaxed and chatted with the reporter about the state of the England team and his own feelings.
On the atmosphere within the England camp
“Obviously there’s some pressure from the outside, but I feel like within the camp we’re in a really good place right now. We wanted to top the group and we did that. Now we’re focused on the knockout stages and we’re really looking forward to it.”
On the pressure England faces as favorites
“I would say that playing football is joy, it’s happiness. I feel like when I’m on the pitch, all the unhappy things disappear and I’m just enjoying my football. I’m free to dribble, to pass, to shoot. I just love playing football.”
On Southgate
“He’s always supported me, trusted me, and put me on in big games, so I’m very grateful to him, I think a lot of players feel the same. We’re just focused on winning the next game right now.”
“I think we should just trust Southgate fully and let him make the decisions, trust him and the team,” he said when asked about potentially switching positions, adding, “I feel more comfortable on the right, I think that’s where I play my best.”
On his teammates
“Most wingers would see Kyle Walker as a big challenge, but now he’s playing behind me, having someone that strong in that position gives me confidence so I can go forward more freely.”
“Munu is very mature and we saw his quality and talent from day one in training. He proved himself against Slovenia, and we want him to keep progressing.”
