Romania goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu has said he is prepared for a penalty shootout in the Round of 16 against the Netherlands but would prefer his side to get the job done in the 90 minutes, Reuters reported.
Speaking ahead of the game, Tătărușanu said: “I am ready for penalties, but I do not want to go through that. I would prefer my teammates to win the game in 90 minutes. I believe that they can do it. It will be a difficult match, but if we follow the coach’s instructions and make the right decisions, I hope we can achieve a good result. We must be like a yellow wall, united. If we do that, we will be successful.”
When asked about the Netherlands, he said: “The Netherlands have a lot of great players who play in top leagues. This is a strength that we cannot match. But with the team’s advantage, we can overcome this disadvantage.”
Tătărușanu also spoke about the atmosphere within the team, saying: “I am good friends with the other two goalkeepers. Being able to participate in the European Championship is a credit to Moldovan. We are a team, we have a good relationship, and we always encourage each other. I only found out I would start until the last moment. We have written history here, but I don’t want it to stop there. I hope that after facing the Netherlands, we will have even more joy.”
Finally, he was asked about the most emotional moment of the European Championship, and he said: “After every game, I hug my wife and children. Every time, they tell me that they are proud of me and that they love me.”
