Germany will face Spain in the European Championship quarter-finals on July 6 at 00:00. Former German international Torsten Frings believes the game will be a close one.
In his column for Kicker, Frings wrote: “It will be an open game, and the chances of both sides winning are truly 50-50. We can’t be intimidated by Spain, we have to be proactive and try to hurt them.”
Despite their previous 6-0 defeat to Spain, Frings believes Germany will not fear their opponents. He added: “The similarity between the Spain of 2008 and the Spain of today is that they are equally cohesive and possess strong ball control. But I see one difference: they are not at their peak like they were 16 years ago, they are not invincible.”
“We need to control their incredibly efficient attack, especially the brilliant wingers Nico Williams and Yamal, but also not neglect our own strengths, we also have the ability to attack with courage.”
