This year’s European Championship saw football legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer reunite as commentators. In a recent program, Lineker revealed a funny anecdote that happened during the tournament.
Lineker said: “Me and Shearer went out for dinner, and we went to an Italian restaurant. After dinner, we went to commentate on the Austria vs Turkey match. On our way, we passed a small store and an opera house. There was a group of Germans on the street, and one of them shouted something to me in German. I don’t understand German, so I asked him if he spoke English.”
The German immediately responded: “Yes, yes, I speak English. I want to know how long you two have been together? You are a very loving couple.”
This question left Lineker speechless, but he jokingly replied: “We’ve been together since February 1992, I remember it very clearly.”
Shearer chimed in: “I think that young man might have thought I was kidnapped. To be honest, I’ve never been so insulted in my life.”
