England has struggled to reach the quarter-finals of this European Championship, and Manchester City star Foden has been criticised for his performances. In an interview today, he spoke about his and the team’s condition.
Foden said: “To be honest, I’m a bit frustrated with my performances at the moment. I want to score goals, I want to give my best for England, but I haven’t been able to do that. But I still need to keep a positive mindset. I was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, but I haven’t been able to show that at the Euros. I’m improving every game now, and my goal is to help England achieve great things.”
On his potential position clash with Bellingham, Foden said: “My performances at Manchester City this season show that I am better suited to playing in the middle, where I can score more goals. I have always believed that my best position is midfield. But I disagree with the comments that Bellingham and I can’t coexist. I think we can still work together in the game.”
On Southgate, Foden said: “I’m very sorry for those comments from the outside. Southgate has never implemented a strategy of defending when leading. In training, he always tells us to push forward, but sometimes on the pitch many things are decided by the players. Players need to take some responsibility, we need to do better now to achieve better results.”
