Yesterday, Albanian FA President Duka attended the England vs. Slovakia European Championship knockout match. After the match, Duka gave an interview to Kosovar media Klan Kosova. In the interview, Duka spoke about the England vs. Slovakia match, Albania’s campaign at this European Championship, and the future of coach Sylvinho.
You watched the England vs. Slovakia match, what are your thoughts on the game?
Duka: It was a very exciting game. Slovakia were very close to qualifying, and it would have been great if they had. But they were unlucky in the last minutes of the match, conceding a goal, and then conceding another in extra time.
How would you assess Albania’s performance at this European Championship?
Duka: I think the team played well in all three games, or more accurately, in two and a half games. The first half of the first game and the last two games. We are not happy with the points, as we only got one in three games, but it was the most difficult group in this European Championship. Overall, the team performed very well. If we had more courage and confidence, we could have won more. The fans were also fantastic. The atmosphere our fans created at our matches was something you don’t see in other matches. It’s not just the atmosphere, it’s everything.
The future of coach Sylvinho?
I told Sylvinho that his contract ended after the European Championship. However, we have reached an agreement on the renewal, but it has not been officially signed yet. He will take a few days off, and next week we will meet again, continue this conversation, and work on other things.
