The European Championship is the highest-grossing tournament in the world besides the UEFA Champions League. The television rights alone have generated €1.44 billion, while the commercial revenue sector has reached €5.68 billion. Additionally, with ticket sales exceeding €300 million, stadium revenue could potentially reach €100 million. UEFA’s total income from this European Championship has reached €2.5 billion, a significant increase from the previous edition held three years ago. This has led to a substantial increase in the prize money distributed to participating teams and players. Thanks to UEFA’s policy of “sharing the spoils,” national federations, players, and clubs have all received generous bonuses.

Player bonuses are allocated from the federation’s prize money. The federation of the team crowned European champion will receive €28.25 million. Each team that makes it to the knockout stages will receive €9.25 million. A victory in the group stage earns a team €1 million, and the bonus increases with each progression to the next round starting from the round of 16. Players will receive €180,000 for reaching the round of 16, €255,000 for the quarter-finals, €300,000 for the semi-finals, and €400,000 for making it to the final.

As mentioned above, clubs are also involved in the distribution of the “cake.” For clubs in top leagues, UEFA pays €10,000 per day for each player they contribute to the tournament. Additionally, referees officiating the European Championship matches will receive generous bonuses. For example, the main referee will receive €5,000 per match in the group stage, increasing to €7,500 for the round of 16, €12,500 for the quarter-finals, €15,000 for the semi-finals, and €20,000 for the final.
