Former England international Jack Wilshere has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to build his team around Mason Mount.
England reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship after a 2-1 extra-time win against Slovakia in the Round of 16. Mount started the game and played for 83 minutes, leaving a lasting impression on the viewers.
Wilshere said: “Mount has proven himself to be the player England need and the team should build their midfield around him. Although Mount was substituted when England scored, he was England’s best player before Bellingham’s incredible overhead kick equalised. Mount showed fearlessness and was always doing the right thing at the right time. He is the type of midfielder England have been yearning for and he could unite the team for the rest of this tournament and for many years to come.”
