Matthäus: Yamal is good, but I prefer Musiala. Bilbao won’t be able to keep Nico

On July 3, German legend Lothar Matthäus wrote a column for the newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

Matthäus praised Spanish player Lamine Yamal: “Yamal’s performance is nothing short of a miracle. He’s only 17 years old, he’s so young and so clever. I’m happy for my friend Flick, after all he’ll be working with Yamal at Barcelona next season.”

However, Matthäus said that he prefers Jamal Musiala to Yamal: “Musiala is playing great. I don’t want to say he’s better than Yamal, but I think he’s more mature. I prefer Musiala to Yamal, not just because he’s German, but because of his individual abilities. As a number 10, Musiala is more threatening than Yamal. Let’s not forget he’s already scored three goals in this European Championship.”

It’s worth mentioning that Matthäus also believes that Nico Williams will not play for Athletic Club for too long: “Nico Williams is the man on the left wing for Spain. He’s incredibly fast. He was a bit lukewarm before the European Championship. Now he’s invaluable. Athletic Bilbao will have a hard time keeping him.”
