UEFA Offers Only 7,000 Tickets to Swiss National Team Fans, Demand Far Outstrips Supply

After defeating Italy, Switzerland advanced to the Euro 8, where they will face England in the next round. However, according to Swiss media outlet blick, UEFA has only made available 7,000 tickets for Swiss fans.

The media reported that the CEO of the Swiss national team fan association, Zulig, said that in the past 24 hours, he has received thousands of messages and his phone has been ringing constantly. Over 10,000 fans have expressed their desire to attend the match in person within a single day. However, UEFA has only provided 7,000 tickets, with only 1,100 allocated to the fan association.

The huge demand stems from not only Switzerland’s excellent performance but also UEFA’s ticketing strategy: each country is only allowed to receive a maximum of 7,000 tickets for any match at any venue. 70% of the tickets were sold before the opponents were determined, with most of these tickets being purchased by local German fans and neutral fans.

Of course, this sales strategy also has loopholes. For example, many fans speculate that a particular match might feature their national team against another country, but the team may have been eliminated beforehand (for example, the Italian team). In that case, they wouldn’t be going to the match. However, UEFA prohibits ticket resale and refunds, so these fans can only give the tickets to friends or acquaintances, or simply abandon them. This could have a significant impact on the atmosphere of the upcoming matches.

Currently, Swiss fans can only wait for the fan association to coordinate and try to buy tickets that others no longer need.
