Koeman: Turkish players have big hearts, we don’t expect to beat them easily

At 03:00 on July 7th, the Netherlands will face Turkey in the quarter-finals of the European Championship. Ahead of the match, Dutch coach Ronald Koeman spoke to the media.

Koeman said: “Turkey, like Romania, has big hearts in matches. But we always focus on ourselves, on our strengths. We also try to find spaces when facing different types of opponents, this is achieved through substitutions, and we have also trained for this. We have to do our own thing.”

“We are fighting for a place in the semi-finals, which is not an opportunity that comes often. It’s a good moment for us to go further in the competition. We know it won’t be easy to win, we don’t expect to win easily.”

“Many national team players, including myself, have experience playing against Turkish clubs. We always say that we must ensure ball possession, then their fans will automatically quiet down.”

“The start to this European Championship has been very good, we only played poorly against Austria, the match against Romania was brilliant. Every match at the European Championship is difficult, England equalized at the last minute, Portugal won on penalties. Both went through difficult times. Knocking out Romania gave us a lot of confidence, but we need to maintain that confidence.”

If you get 13 corners, you should score at least one. We discussed this and we’ll try to do it in different ways. We have players who are good at heading the ball.”
