On July 6th at midnight, the European Championship quarter-final will see a clash of titans as Spain faces Germany. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Pedri expressed his thoughts on his role in the national team and his hopes for the upcoming match. He claimed he feels more dangerous when playing as a No. 10 for Spain, and he wishes that Gundogan will have a poor performance in the match.
Regarding his return to form after injury, Pedri said: “I feel very good, more confident and hungry for victory. The most important thing is that I’m eager to continue pursuing my dream of winning the European Championship, because I believe Spain has the team to do it.”
“Have I had to make changes after my injury? Yes, I’ve changed my diet. In terms of physical recovery, I’ve even started doing Pilates. I’ve done many different things to find what works best for me. I think I’ve found it.”
Regarding the change in his position for the national team, Pedri explained: “Yes, that’s true. For Spain, I play more as a No. 10, but not at my club. In the No. 10 role, you’re more involved in goals, assists, and the final pass. It’s beneficial for the team, and I can create more danger.”
“In my short career, many coaches have asked me to do that. They told me to roam more in the box, to score goals and provide assists. It’s much easier in that position. Plus, I can create more combinations with Morata. For a No. 10, having a striker like him makes everything easier.”
Pedri also commented on the players in the German squad: “First, I’d say Gundogan. He’s a player who can play as a No. 10, 8, or even 6. He can play any position. From the moment I first saw him at Barcelona, I knew how talented he was. I hope he has a bad game against us.”
“Other German midfielders? Some players might not play in that position, but they have the qualities of a midfielder. For example, Musiala, who might often play on the wing but can cut inside easily. Wirtz has that ability as well. They’ve been high-level players for years. I can learn from them.”
