On June 30th local time, the Italian men’s national football team, which was eliminated from the tournament, flew back to Italy from Germany. As part of the coaching staff, Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon gave a brief interview at the airport.

Speaking about Italy’s elimination, Buffon said: “We didn’t manage to open the game in the way we wanted, now we need to focus on qualifying for the World Cup, it’s absolutely the bare minimum. Compared to recent years, we have to make effective improvements.”

Asked if this Italian team lacked talent, Buffon said: “I don’t think so.”

Italy has now missed the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, their last World Cup goal was scored by Mario Balotelli against England in 2014.
