According to The Athletic, teams have been fined €1,293,645 in the group stage of the European Championship due to behavior such as fireworks, brawls and other offenses.
Of the 24 participating teams, 21 received fines of varying amounts. Croatia received the highest amount, totaling €220,875, of which €119,000 was related to fireworks. Second is Albania, with a total fine of €171,375.
The hosts, Germany, have also been fined twice for a total of €23,375 for failing to “protect the match venue,” due to fans entering the field during the matches between Portugal and Turkey and Georgia.
Serbia ranks third with €166,625. Croatia, Albania and Serbia are the only three teams that have been fined over €100,000. France, Slovakia and Spain are the only three countries that have not been fined.
The reasons for the fines include, but are not limited to, throwing objects, setting off fireworks, field invasion, inappropriate team behavior, public disorder, and spreading unfair information about sports events.
