German FA Announces Nagelsmann Contract Extension Until 2026 After Early Euro Qualification

In a statement, the DFB said: “We can now confirm that Julian Nagelsmann’s contract with the national team has been extended until the end of the 2026 World Cup.”

Earlier, German media outlet Bild reported that the DFB had decided that Nagelsmann would continue as national team coach until the 2026 World Cup. However, the extension clause would only come into effect if the 36-year-old led the “Die Mannschaft” out of the group stage.

Nagelsmann became Germany’s head coach in September 2023. Initially, the former Bayern Munich manager signed a one-year contract with the DFB, earning €6 million a year. However, after a successful half-year with the national team, Nagelsmann has gained the trust of the DFB.

The contract Nagelsmann signed with the DFB last year also included a clause that the DFB could unilaterally terminate the contract without paying any compensation if Germany failed to qualify for the Euro knockout stages.

In the early hours of June 20, Germany beat Hungary 2-0, securing a place in the knockout stages a round early. After two group stage matches, Nagelsmann’s Germany have 6 points and are the first team to qualify for the knockout stages of this year’s European Championships.
