June 20 – According to latest reports from Mirror journalist David Anderson, Burnley have officially told Ajax not to try to sign Dutch striker Wout Weghorst on the cheap. The 31-year-old’s contract with Burnley expires next year, and he is being chased by Eredivisie clubs Ajax and Twente.
It is understood that Burnley have already rejected Ajax’s first offer and are not currently open to selling the player for a low fee. Burnley hope to help decide his future when they appoint a new manager this month.
In the opening game of Euro 2024, Weghorst came on as a substitute and scored with his first touch to help his side beat Poland. The Netherlands overturned a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 thanks to the substitute’s heroics.
The Dutch striker’s value has risen since, having scored four goals in his last five international appearances. After a £12 million move to Burnley two seasons ago, he scored just two goals in 20 appearances before being loaned out to Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim.
The 31-year-old is currently valued at €6 million.
