Mouani: Mbappé is a natural leader, we’ve just lacked luck in front of goal

France will face tournament favorites Spain in the Euro semi-finals. Before the game, France’s Mouani and Fofana attended a press conference, both praising Spain’s performance but emphasizing France’s own strength.

Mouani: Mbappé is a natural leader, we’ve just lacked luck in front of goal

Reporters first asked about the relationship between the French internationals and manager Deschamps. Mouani said: “I have a good relationship with all coaches, including Deschamps and Luis Enrique.” Fofana seemed more cautious: “It’s hard to describe because we’ve worked together for a year, but we don’t always spend time together. He tries to balance it out with everyone, and we’re all united around him.”

Despite reaching the semi-finals and having the chance to reach the final again in their home Euros, there’s been criticism directed at Deschamps’ team. Mouani and Fofana both had their thoughts.

Mouani said: “From the start of this tournament, we’ve lacked luck in front of goal, but I’ve seen the top scorer so far has only scored three goals, so we’re not the only ones who haven’t been able to score. All the teams involved are responsible. We need to reduce the anxiety in the last few games.”

Fofana asked reporters to focus more on the team’s performance: “To be honest, I don’t pay much attention to this criticism. As for other things, I can only say that we’re in the semi-finals. Now we need everyone to move in the same direction, don’t focus too much on whether we’re playing well or not.”

Talking about his teammates, Mouani expressed his unwavering support for captain Mbappé. Mouani said: “Being captain at the national team is different than at the club, he likes to give advice to the team and his teammates. I think he’s a natural leader. Even with an injury, he’s prepared to be on the pitch.”

Mouani also believes that while Spain have played well, France are not afraid of their opponents: “They are one of the best teams at the Euros, they’ve played well. The Euros are getting tougher as they go on. Nico and Lamine are great players, but we’re a strong team too. We can’t say we’re scared of them.”
