July 10th – According to the latest reports from Sky Italia, 48-year-old Italian referee Orsato has confirmed that he will return to Italy with his assistants. In a previous interview, he had stated that he would retire from refereeing after the European Championship. Currently, Polish referee Szymon Marciniak is the most likely to officiate the final. He previously officiated the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
Orsato and his team officiated four matches at this World Cup, including Serbia vs. England, Germany vs. Switzerland, Portugal vs. Slovenia, and the last match between England and Switzerland in the quarter-finals, which England won 5-3 on penalties.
During an interview at the European Championship qualifying referees meeting, Orsato told Sky Italia that he would retire after the tournament. Of course, the Italian did not hide his dream of refereeing the European Championship final. With Orsato’s team returning home, the most likely referee for the European Championship final is Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who is on track to become the first referee to officiate the finals of the World Cup, European Championship, and Champions League.
