Ahead of the European Championship semi-final between Spain and France, Spanish football expert Barragán said Spain is fighting for “the future of football”.
Spain is considered the most aesthetically pleasing team in the competition, their style of play in stark contrast to the more pragmatic approach of their opponents, France.
Barragán said: “We are not just fighting for Spain, we are fighting for the future of football. You know how it is in big tournaments, if you win in a certain way, everyone will want to play that way.”
He also pointed out that the number of goals in the tournament has been low, and Spain needs to defeat France to ensure an exciting final: “The tournament started off really exciting, but now we are averaging 1.02 goals per game, the lowest since 1996.”
France have scored just four goals in their five European Championship matches, with three goals, one conceded, two penalties and two own goals. If the final were to be France against England, it could severely damage the reputation of the tournament.
