Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to the media after his team’s dramatic 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Turkey at the European Championship.
Van Dijk said: “We started the game well, both in possession and in denying the opposition possession. Then we became sloppy and gave the ball away in dangerous moments, which happened a few times. We made some mistakes during the match, but we didn’t collapse because of them. In the second half, we knew we had to stay calm and take our chances, which we did well in the end.”
“When you see how everyone reacted and worked together, we can honestly say ‘we gave our all’. We did everything we could to win with tackles and saves. Now it’s time to recover and prepare for another tough game. And I’m sure that everyone will be ready to go before the semi-final.”
