On July 9th, England will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the European Championships. Former England international, Gabriel Agbonlahor, believes that Foden should be dropped from the starting lineup due to his wasteful shooting.
Foden, the reigning Premier League MVP, has had a disappointing European Championship campaign so far, failing to score or assist. Despite England reaching the semi-finals, Foden has been one of the most criticized players in the squad.
Agbonlahor expressed his disappointment in Foden’s performance: “I’ve been watching Foden closely, and he did show a slight improvement in the game against Switzerland. However, he continues to take shots with reckless abandon, disregarding the team, and getting easily dispossessed. Foden can’t take his chances, and in this case, I wouldn’t mind seeing him replaced by Palmer or Eze, although I think it’s unlikely.”
England are just two games away from winning their first-ever European Championship trophy. Whether Foden can bounce back in the upcoming matches remains to be seen.
