Reports indicate that the trial run of a new communication rule at the Euro Cup has been successful, leading UEFA to fully implement it across all competitions.
Clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool will be affected by the measure, which was introduced at the Euro Cup held in Germany. UEFA limited communication between team captains and referees in an attempt to maximize fair play and respect for match officials, as well as to decrease foul play by players and coaches.
Due to its success at the Euro Cup, UEFA revealed that the plan will be utilized in all UEFA-affiliated competitions this season, including the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. “The success of this new approach, embraced by football stakeholders and welcomed by public opinion, is seen as an undeniable step forward for the image of football, enhancing our confidence that this is the way forward,” UEFA said in a statement.
“Fair play and respect are values that football, the world’s most popular sport, must convey to our society. Starting next week with the new season of European competitions, this approach will be extended to all UEFA competitions.”
Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Villa will participate in the Champions League this season, while Tottenham and Manchester United will play in the Europa League. Chelsea will compete in the Conference League. Meanwhile, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City will participate in the Women’s Champions League.
