Former Belgium international, and ex-Lille, Everton, Fiorentina star Miranchuk, appearing as a guest on RMC television, stated that Turkey and Switzerland were more deserving of a place in the Euro semi-finals, rather than France and England.
“I would rather see Turkey or Switzerland in the semi-finals than France,” Miranchuk pointed out. “France’s performance was a failure, even though they qualified, they didn’t show much. Defensively, they were very strong, but in attack, they didn’t create much. This is a team that reached the Euro semi-finals, but their offensive output was much less, I would prefer to see Turkey or Switzerland in the semi-finals.”
Miranchuk remains optimistic about Spain winning the tournament. “I maintain that Spain will win, eliminating the host nation is not easy at all. Especially losing the ball in the last moment of the match (regular time), everyone was saying it would be complicated for Spain, but they still fought for victory in extra time. They lost Pedri, but they brought on Olmo, who played for 60 minutes and was able to become a key player, providing an assist. I found that, from the start of the competition, Spain have been the team that has produced the best matches, showing the most desire.”
Miranchuk’s career saw him play for Lille, Saint-Étienne, Olympiacos, Everton, Fiorentina, Antwerp, among others. He scored 29 goals and provided 21 assists in 151 appearances in the Premier League, 13 goals and 8 assists in 129 appearances in Ligue 1, 2 goals and 1 assist in 27 appearances in Serie A. He also added 4 goals and 6 assists in 43 European competition appearances. He played for Belgium for 11 years, making 60 appearances and scoring 10 goals, participating in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2014 World Cup, and 2018 World Cup.
