Netherlands beat Turkey 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the European Championship to advance to the semi-finals. Centre-back De Vrij scored a goal to help the Netherlands equalize and was named man of the match. In a post-match interview with BBC, De Vrij talked about the game and his future at Inter.
About the game
De Vrij: “My goal? It was a beautiful goal and very important. We were behind and had difficulties, Turkey were very disciplined and their defence was very solid. We didn’t have many chances, but we still had confidence. We kept looking for opportunities in the game, and in the end we created them and scored the equaliser.”
“We are good at taking the lead quickly after equalising. We had difficulties afterwards, but the whole team fought together until the end, we have to give credit to the whole team. We played well in the first 20 minutes, but then we gave away too many goals, the opponents played very well and they took the lead. As I said before, we found our way back in the second half and continued the game. We know how to cope with setbacks.”
About his future at Inter
De Vrij: “I still have one year on my contract and there is also an option to renew. I am very happy now, and it has also been a great season. The future? I will stay at Inter.”
