Kane: Told teammates pitch was bad before Euros, contributing to lower standards

England captain Harry Kane said on July 6 that he warned his teammates before the start of the Euros about the poor condition of the pitches.

England’s quarterfinal clash against Switzerland is scheduled for the Düsseldorf Arena. The pitch has been relaid twice already but still hasn’t met UEFA standards, so a third relaying will take place before the match.

Kane said he had warned his teammates about the problems with the pitch: “It’s something I’ve spoken to the lads about before the tournament, I had experience of it last season in the Bundesliga. It’s not something I can control, I’m not blaming anyone, everyone’s trying to do the best job they can. But for whatever reason, the pitches haven’t been at the level we’d like them to be. From our point of view, it’s not an excuse, it’s something everyone has to deal with.”

Kane also believes the pitch conditions have contributed to a lower number of goals and a lower standard of play in the tournament.
