Foden on England’s switch to a three-back system: We want to press high and try to keep the ball

England will face Switzerland in the European Championship quarter-finals on July 7th, 00:00. Both sides have announced their starting lineups, with England switching to a three-back system.

Foden spoke to the BBC: “We’ve changed formation to suit how the opposition plays, to press high and try to keep the ball. Let’s see how it goes, I’m looking forward to it. For me, I’ll be playing more in midfield and staying in there. I think it suits me better today. If we get our shape right and press well, that will give us a lot of confidence.”

“I’m very confident, we’ve been training really hard, the training’s been really good, hopefully we can get the rewards. I think we want to win for Gareth [Southgate] and also for the importance of the game itself.”
