Mbappé: My Euro journey was a failure, if you don’t perform you go home

In the Euro semi-finals, Mbappé assisted in Muani’s opening goal, but Yamal and Olmo scored two goals in five minutes, leading to a 2-1 defeat for France against Spain. After the game, French captain Mbappé gave an interview to the media.

Mbappé said: “We came up against a very strong opponent, they played better, and we didn’t. That’s how football is, it shouldn’t be too complicated. You either perform well or you don’t. I didn’t perform well, we’re going home, simple.”

“The truth is that we took the lead, then quickly conceded two goals, and in the second half we couldn’t come back. There are some situations that you can’t turn around, that’s football.”

“I decided not to wear a mask before the game, I’ve had enough. I asked the doctor and he said it was my decision. I had ambitions to become a European champion, but unfortunately I didn’t perform well. My European Championship journey was a failure. I will now go on holiday to rest, which will do me a lot of good, and work to get back to my best. Resting is important for me, then I will start a new life with new goals to achieve.”
