On July 9th, the European Championship semi-finals are set to kick off, and former Celtic striker and current Sky Sports commentator Sutton has shared his thoughts on the Spain vs. France clash.
When it comes to France, the first thing that comes to mind is their beautiful football, but this French side has been quite underwhelming. Defensively, the centre-back pairing of Saliba and Upamecano has been exceptional, and goalkeeper Maignan has been on fire. However, I’ve been shocked by their lackluster attack. Mbappe has struggled to find his form, and Dembele has been inconsistent.
I believe Spain has been the best team in this European Championship. They might be slow starters, but once they hit their stride, they are unstoppable. While Pedri will miss the game due to injury, and Lenormand and Carvajal will be suspended due to yellow card accumulation, manager De la Fuente will make the necessary adjustments.
From a rational perspective, I believe Spain will win. However, I still have my fingers crossed for Mbappe to regain his form and for Dembele to step up. If that happens, France will have the edge over Spain. Despite their underwhelming performances so far, they still have the potential to reach the final. I’m predicting a 2-1 victory for France over Spain.
