Former Dutch Star Belittles England: Their Players Don’t Know How to Play, Coach Is Confused

The Dutch football world is brimming with optimism ahead of the upcoming European Championship semi-final clash between the Netherlands and England. This optimism stems from their observations of England’s underwhelming performance throughout the tournament.

Former Barcelona star, Afellay, has been vocal in his criticism of England’s display. He stated, “Watching England, you can’t help but wonder: what are we seeing? Their play lacks systematic cooperation, it’s as if the players themselves aren’t sure what to do next, and the coach seems equally confused.

There are rumors that Southgate considered replacing Bellingham. Even Bellingham on the pitch seemed perplexed: ‘What’s going on?’ If that’s the case, he should perhaps hand in his coaching license.”

In an interview with NOS TV, Afellay pointed out that English players struggle to adapt effectively when facing adversity, as seen in their matches against Switzerland and others. “Once England finds themselves in a disadvantageous position, they abandon all caution and resort to risky tactics. At that point, you’re surprised to discover they actually possess creativity.”

Despite this, Afellay firmly believes the Dutch team needn’t fear any opponent. “However, in the case of the Netherlands, the fighting spirit they displayed in the second half against Turkey was impressive. To be honest, I saw the speed and strength of our team. Comparing them to England, I’m confident the Netherlands can reach the final.”

Similarly, Dutch legend, Ceden, has questioned England’s overall performance. “Southgate seems to lack a clear plan for his team. Back in England, there’s been much criticism of the team’s style of play. Considering the top-class players they possess, these criticisms may be warranted.”
