Keane: Spain are favourites but England are destined for Euro glory

England have once again come from behind to reach a major tournament final after beating the Netherlands 2-1. Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane believes that while Spain will be heavy favourites, England are “destined” to win the tournament.

Keane: Spain are favourites but England are destined for Euro glory

After falling behind to a stunning strike from Xavi Simons, Harry Kane’s penalty steadied the ship for the Three Lions before substitute Callum Wilson scored a late winner to send England to their second successive European Championship final. Keane believes this fightback will give Southgate’s side a huge lift.

Keane said: “I would make Spain favourites but sometimes, for this England team, things are just meant to be. They should have gone home a week ago and now they seem to have found an extra gear. It’s great to see players who come on as subs have that right attitude and show they want to get involved and make an impact, so to score the winning goal. Subs have had a big impact at this Euros for a lot of teams and I think we’ll see a great final between England and Spain.”

Talking about the England penalty, Keane said: “In my opinion it wasn’t a penalty, but you do need a little bit of luck in games like this. I’ve always felt that if that happened elsewhere on the pitch, it would have been a free-kick, but when it comes to big decisions, I like to keep the physicality in football, these little nudges in the box don’t do it for me.”
