After England beat the Netherlands 2-1 to reach the European Championship final for the second time in a row, Gary Neville highlighted that Spain midfielders Rodri and Fabián Ruiz could be stumbling blocks for England’s quest for the trophy.
Spain, who also won their semi-final 2-1 in a comeback victory, demonstrated impressive attacking football with a squad full of world-class players. While 16-year-old Lamine Yamal stole the spotlight in this tournament, Neville believes that the Spanish midfield duo – Rodri and Fabián Ruiz – are the real threat England needs to be wary of.
In an interview with V, Neville stated: “Believe me, if England allows Rodri and Fabián Ruiz to perform at their best, Southgate’s team will face a lot of difficulties. If they pass the ball to the two wingers (Yamal and Nico Williams), England’s full-backs will have trouble.”
“Against Rodri, against Fabián Ruiz, trying to stop them, you stop a lot of the attacks. I thought they were excellent against France. Southgate needs to do something to stop this combination.”
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is also aware of the upcoming challenge and has given high praise to England’s strength. “England is very strong, they have experienced and seasoned players. It will be a very tough match. They have many top players, and we need to play a great game if we want to win.”
The clash between the two sides will undoubtedly be a battle of tactics and skills, with both England and Spain going all out to lift the European Championship trophy.
