The Dutch team encountered travel delays while traveling to Dortmund for their European Championship semi-final match, but head coach Koeman insists that this minor hiccup will not affect his team’s preparation for their match against England.
The Dutch team was originally scheduled to travel from their training base in Wolfsburg to Dortmund by land, but unexpected congestion disrupted the team’s plans. Koeman led the team to fly to the match venue, arriving at the hotel on the evening of July 9th, forcing them to cancel the pre-match press conference.
In an interview with UEFA, Koeman appeared relaxed: “The delay isn’t a problem, we had a good rest this afternoon, and the flight only took 30 minutes, we’ll get a good night’s sleep tonight.”
This match will be the 4th time Holland and England have met in a major tournament. England has only won once in the last nine matches against Holland. Facing a strong opponent, Koeman remains cautious, saying, “The two teams are not that different in strength. In my opinion, the game is 50/50, we need to play a perfect game to win. We know they have a lot of star players, but both teams are very strong, it will be a great game.”
In the quarter-finals, Holland beat Turkey 2-1 in Berlin, while England needed a penalty shootout to eliminate Switzerland. Koeman believes this could be an advantage for his team. Koeman said: “England went through extra time in the last game, so the difference in fitness could have an impact in the second half of the semi-final. We are in good shape now and will focus on the game.”
